Whether at the beach, on the balcony, to shorten the waiting time for the bus/train/flight, or with an afternoon iced coffee: our smartphones, and with them our social media alter egos, accompany us everywhere this summer. Just like the rest of the year anyway. However, only once a year is “World Camera Day“. Reason enough to take a closer look at the current trends in social networks. And this special day falls in the summer – on 29.06.2023.

At 25 years of age, I am officially part of Gen Z, so it’s safe to assume that I spend most of my time exploring the world through the camera lens of my iPhone. I have to disappoint you: for me, this article was a challenge and a little challenge to spend more time on Instagram (I don’t even have a Tik Tok profile and only see the “trends” that have already made it onto Instagram). Reversed Digital Detox, so to speak. Over the last few weeks, I’ve tried to filter out trends on Instagram (and also Tik Tok) for you, and you can find a summary of my findings here.

All Time Favourites, but especially before Bikini Season

My Instagram feed consists mainly of cute dogs, cute babies and toddlers, food and fitness inspiration. I’m very happy with that all year round, but of course, the topic of fitness and food becomes even more relevant in the weeks leading up to the first summer holiday and bikinis in my luggage. From Easter onwards, tips and tricks for getting the bikini figure you want really quickly become a big topic online. Mini workouts in video format, easy to incorporate into everyday life, will be posted alongside “Healthy Fitness Food Inspos”, colourfully spreading hunger. Push notifications to live Instagram sessions encourage you to join in immediately and steel your six-pack (even if that’s at 10:00 a.m. when I’m bristling at a meeting marathon armed with coffee and wondering why there’s really a community that cares so intensely about their abs at this hour) and reels about “What I eat in a day” have the intention to motivate healthy alternatives (make you hungry, a guilty conscience and does she really only eat a hummus sandwich for lunch?!). I also watch these videos and really enjoy the one or other inspiration. But as fast as this trend comes every year, the more one should also question what of it is really helpful, implementable and sustainably healthy. As trendy as it may seem (every year anew), please don’t let it make you despair and have a guilty conscience, because one thing is important: all bodies are bikini bodies!!!

Summer Outfits & Holiday Inspiration

This is your sign to…

While some of my colleagues have already had their first summer weekend trip, you still don’t know exactly where you should sip your Aperol Spritz this summer? And that’s despite the fact that I’m sure you’ve already received a sign from Instagram or Tik Tok as to where you should definitely go. If not, then here we go: This is your sign to book your Falkensteiner Summer holiday…

#OOTD but trendy

You are real fashionistas and are travelling to great places in the world this summer? The familiar #OOTD (outfit of the day) has just been replaced by a new, trendier version. To the matching beats of “Killing Me Softly With His Song”, someone else takes over the selfie camera while the main protagonist of the video strides along and slowly but surely, not only the mega-cool outfit but also the worth-seeing (holiday) surroundings are put in the limelight. Summer look, holiday location & mobile phone camera – let’s go! Here is an example of an influencer and her top-styled family:

Snack Attack

Your holiday destination and summer outfit are in place, now all you need is the perfect snack for hot summer days. This trendy snack is called Jelly Watermelon and is exactly what it sounds like. A watermelon is hollowed out and filled with fresh berries and other chopped fruit. Then a syrup with gelatine/agar agar is added to the fruit in the watermelon and chilled. Now cut the watermelon open and bite into a fruit salad. Here’s the recipe for your next summer party staple:

Party Hard

Speaking of the party: “My name is Leonie and this is my first drink.” (she says, sipping her cappuccino). What happens next until my last drink today? That remains my secret. But for all those who are invited to weddings, birthdays or other celebrations in summer, documenting the drinks consumed is a really fun (for some more, others less) drinking game that also captures the memories of the humid and merry evening. Whether or not you want to post the video publicly remains to be seen, but for private purposes, it is a very special kind of memory. Under the hashtag #firstdrinkvslastdrink, you can embarrass yourself on Instagram and Tik Tok for other party moms 😉

Other random content:

#WWBD

There’s a new hashtag again #WWBD and yes, it really does mean “What Would Barbie Do”. The blonde, who is already 64 years old, has recently become trendy again. That’s because there’s a new Barbie movie starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling coming out in July. Content creators see the anticipation of the film as an opportunity to think about how Barbie would react in certain situations in everyday life.

Food ASMR

ASMR is a term most people know, the exact meaning is “autonomous sensory meridian response”, and describes a goosebump-like feeling in response to certain acoustic or visual stimuli. The ASMR trend is no longer new, but lately, I’ve been able to observe more and more often that a kind of ASMR creeps into short cooking videos. So people are chopping, stirring and then tasting loudly to the beat. The ingredients and the cooking technique are clearly in the foreground, you can learn a thing or two and relax thanks to the (mostly) pleasant sounds. One of my favourite accounts on Instagram produces videos of this kind:
