Whether flat or steep, easy or challenging, short or full-day routes, Nassfeld offers something for every hiker. We asked our Experience Concierge from the Falkensteiner Hotel & Spa Carinzia, Luka Zelko Fornazaric, about the most beautiful routes and best views:

Sunrise Hike to Gartnerkofel

During this hike, even the most ardent night owls will become enthusiastic early risers. The journey begins in the darkness at Watschiger Alm. From there, you ascend first along the ski slope and then along the hiking trail to the summit of Gartnerkofel at 2,195 meters. Upon reaching the top, you’ll enjoy a breathtaking view and witness firsthand as the sun bathes the Carnic Alps in golden light. A day couldn’t start more beautifully!

  • Distance: approx. 5km
  • Ascent: 567 meters
  • Difficulty: Easy

Mountain Tour Kammleiten

History meets breathtaking views. Starting from Watschiger Alm, you hike towards the FIS slope. From there, you traverse meadows to Kühweger Törl. Along the way, you’ll enjoy a fantastic view over the Gailtal valley and the surrounding mountains. Just before reaching the summit, history becomes visible and noticeable. Ascending over limestone, a rock approximately 230 million years old, you reach the peak.

  • Distance: approx. 4km
  • Ascent: 360 meters
  • Difficulty: Easy

Hike to Malurch

From Carinthia to Italy and back in a day. Starting from the old Caserma (an old Italian barrack in the mountains), you proceed along the idyllic forest road to Winkelalm. Then, the ascent begins over the Pridola saddle and old military paths towards the summit. After ringing the summit bell and taking a well-deserved break, the descent begins. Be sure to stop at Winkelalm at the end. There, you’ll be rewarded with a snack and an impressive view for your hike.

  • Distance: approx. 10km
  • Ascent: 560 meters
  • Difficulty: Moderate

Auernig, Garnitzberg & Gugga

Three peaks in one day, no problem! The journey starts at the border with Italy. Passing by the memorial church, you leisurely hike until the first ascent. After a challenging 300 altitude meters, you reach the summit of Auernig. Once you’ve enjoyed the view towards Italy, you continue over the saddle to the summit of Garnitzberg. The summit of Gugga completes the trio, followed by a viewing platform. The descent follows through meadows to Watschiger Alm, passing by sulfur springs back to the starting point.

  • Distance: approx. 7km
  • Ascent: 430 meters
  • Difficulty: Moderately difficult
