Powder, sun, fresh air: we love skiing in spring!

For many, the winter and thus the ski season is over by the end of February. By then, most people are already thinking about sunny beaches and have already left the winter – and everything that goes with it – behind. Funny enough, now it’s just the best time to go skiing. This is so for many reasons – and we have been on the slopes until mid-April.

Slopes are empty and the snow feels fresh and powdery at the summit, while further down the famous “firn (unconsolidated snow)” – only found in this form in the spring – appears. Every skier cherishes this marvellous feeling when gliding down the mountain on the soft snow, bathed by the warm sun rays, as the exhilaration mounts.

Speaking of empty slopes: those bent on dodging the high season and dying to get the mountain and the spa area to themselves should consider March or April the best time to visit. In the low season, everything seems a bit quieter and, as much as we love après ski, a little break from the ski resorts crowds is certainly welcome.

Fortunately, Falkensteiner has not just one or two but several hotels to choose, the top spots for spring ski vacations. For example the hotel in Schladming, where Vicky has already spent a few days, or the Hotel and Spa Carinzia, where Kathi spent a week skiing with the whole family. Either way, there is a huge selection of beautiful hotels set in prime locations – you only need to choose your destination!

And for the beach lovers and tan enthusiasts among you, still dragging your feet, picture this: nothing  beats the summit under the spring sun for an ultra-fast sun tan, with a large ski water (note: mineral water with raspberry syrup) in your hands, surrounded by white, sparkling snow.
