Interior Design Sneak Peak from Montafon: Part 1

A look behind the scenes and into the creative minds of Vudafieri-Saverino Partners. You can read exclusively here about what needs to be considered in the interior design of a family hotel, what role sustainability plays in the realisation of our new 5* Falkensteiner Hotel Montafon (coming Winter 2022) and what makes the design so unique:
  • What role does the nature of the region and sustainability play?
The region and its nature are the key inspiration for the entire project, from the contemporary alpine exterior architecture to the echo of the Montafon seasons. The natural environment allows for a year-round experience, and the many special traditions and architectural features of the region are incorporated into the project.  For example, the traditional Montafon architecture known as the Montafon House, which has the distinctive feature of having both raw wood and white plastered exterior walls, unique in the entire European Alpine chain, is reflected in the choice of materials used in the guest rooms.

We draw on local traditional craftsmanship to create bespoke wallpapers, so colours from the nature surrounding the hotel are also used throughout to bring the outdoors in.
  • What challenges did you face in planning the Falkensteiner Hotel Montafon?
The most interesting challenge was certainly the integration of the mountain tradition, which had to be inserted into a contemporary and glamorous environment while at the same time reflecting Falkensteiner’s style and aspirations.  In addition, the project had to maintain a certain degree of coherence with the external architectural design, which was entrusted to Studio Snøhetta.  It was a challenge to bring these various and often very different elements together in a coherent way, but that is what makes this project quite unique.
  • How do you approach your projects, where do you draw your inspiration from and what distinguishes your work?
We are not only “storytellers”, but also “story listeners”: We spend a lot of time and energy listening to our clients and taking into account the specifics of each project. We believe that our work is a narrative. We are often inspired by contemporary art, but also by random impulses, a wrong execution by a craftsman, a sentence read or heard.
  • Do you have any interior tips for our guests that will make any home a special highlight?
Be curious, think very deeply about what you like, and how you like to live, look at what the great designers do, and find your way.
