…on the guest list with Goethe, King Edward VII and Mark Twain.
Summer retreats in Western Bohemia are not at the top of your bucket list? We dare say, NOT YET! Because one thing is clear: as soon as you pass the town sign Mariánské Lázně, as it is called in Czech, you will have lost your heart to this charming Art Nouveau pearl and its yellow and orange architectural highlights.
A little journey through time killed nobody
As soon as you enter the Falkensteiner Spa Resort Marienbad – an absolute jewel – you sense the splendour of times gone by: Marble, busts, frescoes, subtle gold and opulent chandeliers. After checking in and moving into our room, we head out into the historic city centre.Strolling, traditional beer, healing water & cool Insta-Spots
Equipped with a sippy cup, we stroll through sunny Marienbad, as there is a healing fountain to drink from on almost every corner. An absolute Instagram hotspot and highlight in the city centre is the neo-baroque main colonnade, which survived both world wars. The ceiling frescoes depict man’s desire to fly. In the immediate vicinity is the main street, which is full of restaurants and nice cafés – it’s even better to stroll with an ice cream in your hand.
After listening to the singing fountain and visiting the whole of the Czech Republic in the “Park Boheminium” – a miniature landscape where visitors can admire more than 60 buildings and monuments of the Czech Republic – we answer the call of a cold beer and drive to Kuttenplan, the oldest brewery in West Bohemia. It was really brilliant, but check the opening hours in advance!
