Friend of the mountains

Team Katze, selten offline.

He loves the mountains of South Tyrol and knows them like his own living room – if not a little bit better. René is the Experience Concierge at the Falkensteiner Hotel Kronplatz. With love for nature, unique experiences, and the region of South Tyrol, he plans unforgettable adventures, perfectly tailored to his clients. He enables experiences that remain hidden to most people and thus makes the magic of South Tyrol tangible – for (almost) everyone. In our interview, René talks about the mountains and what makes a moment truly unforgettable.

What is an Experience Concierge and how can you imagine your everyday life?

As Experience Concierge, I take care of the creation and development of activity and experience offers for our guests in the new Falkensteiner Hotel Kronplatz. Our goal is to set the bar very high and to create really special experiences for our guests. If this succeeds, unforgettable memories and vacation moments will remain. This is the actual task of my position.

What makes these experiences so unique? In what way do they differ from other tour offers?

Over the past years, I have built up a large network of acquaintances and partnerships that allow me to provide activities with insider tips and exclusive details that other providers simply cannot offer.

“From mountain friends for mountain friends” is the leitmotif of the new hotel at Kronplatz. What connects you with the mountain world?

Winter as well as summer I am and have always been connected with mountains. The passion for snowboarding, mountain biking, and hiking has always led me to the South Tyrolean mountains and the love for them has been unbroken since my childhood!

What do the South Tyrolean mountains mean to you in particular?

The South Tyrolean mountain world actually means freedom for me!

In a short time, you can reach unique places for which the whole world envies us. The sheer endless possibilities and activities, winter and summer in this scenery mean freedom.

In addition to the South Tyrolean mountain world, the Premium Hotel is also inspired by the passion of South Tyrolean mountain sports legends. Which mountaineering legend inspires you and why?

Certainly, Hans Kammerlander, who climbed 12 of the 14 eight-thousanders. More and more often he even chose a combination of fast climbs and the use of skis for the way back. In 1990, for example, he managed the first descent over the Diamir face on Nanga Parbat. In 1996 he was the first person to ski from Everest over the north face to the base camp. The ascent to Everest in 16 hours and 40 minutes is still the fastest ascent of the north face of the highest mountain on earth. It took him 23 hours and 50 minutes for the ascent and descent. A person who is capable of such sporting achievements can simply inspire.

What is especially important to you when designing the activity and experience offer?

The creation of an activity and experience offer must take the following into account: any experience must meet the needs of our guests, the fun and wow factor must never be missing. They should be close to nature and sustainable, different senses should be activated and addressed. Activities must be supervised professionally and safely, exclusivity must be given and a plan B must always be ready. The offers must also be repeatable depending on the season. Last but not least, activity and experience offers must not be dangerous and must be adapted to the skills of the participants.

Which living mountain sportsman would you like to go on tour with?

For freeriding in winter with Markus Eder.

What is your favorite place in the mountains?

The Würzjoch and the Peitlerkofel, unique and stunningly beautiful.
