We caught up with Marko Vuljan, the hotel director, and asked him more about it
Since when have you been General Manager at the Falkensteiner Hotel & Spa Carinzia – what did you do before?
I have been the managing director of the Falkensteiner Hotel & Spa Carinzia since 2018. Before that, I had already worked as the managing director at Falkensteiner for ten years. Before joining Falkensteiner, I held various positions in renowned hotels and European countries, including Cluster F&B Director and Hotel Manager.
What is special about this house compared to others?
Our house scores with a unique location in the middle of the Carinthian Nockberge mountains. Guests can experience a breathtaking natural backdrop here and enjoy a wide range of activities such as hiking, skiing, golfing and wellness. In addition, the hotel convinces with its modern alpine style, spacious rooms and excellent culinary offer.
How much will the hotel change through the renovation or what is new and different?
The hotel will undergo many changes as a result of the renovation. A more modern and appealing design concept will be implemented to further enhance the well-being of our guests. New room categories will be introduced and the public areas will receive a completely new look that is fresh and appealing. In addition, a new fitness area will be created to offer our guests an extended range of services.
What is the biggest challenge of a new opening or reopening?
The coordination and organisation of all the processes. It requires a lot of planning to ensure that all areas of the hotel run smoothly and that the guests’ expectations are met.

How many employees are there?
We currently have about 90 employees. We attach great importance to a well-coordinated team that can offer excellent service. Each of them contributes to the success of the hotel with his or her dedication and commitment.

What do you like to do most in your free time in the region/at the hotel?
In my free time in the region, I enjoy exploring the surrounding mountains and doing various outdoor activities such as hiking or cycling. In the hotel itself, I like to use the wellness areas to relax and unwind.
And of course, riding my motorbike, Harley-Davidson is my hobby, that can’t be missed.
What would you recommend every guest to do when they stay at your hotel?
To explore the surrounding nature and to participate in hotel activities (Pilates, Yoga, HIIT, etc.). In addition, you should definitely try the hotel’s excellent cuisine and let yourself be pampered in the spa area.
