Colourful, more colourful, Easter with children

The Easter countdown is on: A plush bunny hiding sweets and sometimes even little surprises – what could be better? Not only Christmas, but also Easter is an exciting time for the youngest among us: everything is more colourful than usual, people are out and about again, and they are busy painting Easter eggs for Easter Sunday. Chick, egg, and Easter bunny: our favourite recipes, craft ideas, and Easter rituals
Cheeky cress!
The highlight on the Easter table What would an Easter Sunday morning be without fresh, crispy buttered bread with freshly “harvested” cress on top? That’s right! – It wouldn’t be a real Easter Sunday! But let’s spice it up a bit and make a fun eye-catcher at the Easter table. These cress eggs are great to make or sow with your kids a few days before and are guaranteed to get a laugh or two; especially if you paint funny faces or stick googly eyes on them 😊 We love them! Did you know that you can plant lollies?
You don’t believe us? At first, we were a little skeptical too – but it really only works on one day of the year – Holy Saturday. Believe it or not, the very next day the seeds are already bearing fruit. How does it work? Simply press a few small sweets into the bed, a flower pot, or the lawn, wait one night and VOILÀ lollies suddenly pop out of the ground! A magical Easter ritual that makes children’s eyes light up!
Yes, we like it, the Germ!
At Easter it is a must – we are talking about the Easter “striezel”. Fluffy, fluffy yeast dough spread with a little butter, maybe a dab of homemade jam – that’s what tradition tastes like! On Easter Monday, many children are surprised by their godparents with a small gift basket, which usually contains small gifts, but also the traditional Easter Striezel. A yeast dough pastry plaited into a plait, wreath, or croissant that tastes simply amazing – we have a recipe here for yeast nests that will brighten up any Easter table! Grab your kids and get to work on the yeast! 😊
You need:
  • 240 ml milk
  • 1 packet of dry yeast
  • 115 grams butter, soft
  • 600 grams of flour
  • 3 eggs
  • 115 grams sugar
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 55 grams butter, melted
  • 7 uncooked eggs, coloured
  • 120 grams of icing sugar
  • 2-3 tsp milk Source: Pinterest
  • Colourful sugar sprinkles
How to make: Heat the milk slightly(!), and do not boil. Stir the yeast into it. Mix soft butter and 240 grams of flour. Gradually fold in three eggs. Then add the milk-yeast mixture and the sugar. Mix everything well. Add the vanilla extract and lemon juice to the dough. Work with the dough hook of the hand mixer and knead in the remaining flour. Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover with a kitchen towel. Leave to rise in a warm place for at least 1 – 1 1/2 hours. Knead the dough briefly and divide it into 14 pieces. Form into long rolls on a floured surface. Take two dough rolls at a time and fold the ends together. Fold the dough strands over each other and form a circle. The circle should be large enough to fit the egg inside. Do the same with the rest of the dough until you have seven nests. Cover with a kitchen towel and leave to rise for another hour. Brush the nests with melted butter. Preheat the oven to 175 degrees. 15 minutes before the nests have finished resting, place eggs in the centre and press down lightly. Bake the nests in the oven for 15-20 minutes until golden. Leave finished nests to cool on the baking tray for five minutes and then transfer to a cooling rack. Leave to cool completely. More is more! For the glaze, mix the icing sugar and milk until creamy. Spread the glaze over the nests with a brush. Decorate with colourful sugar sprinkles. Add a self-painted egg as the icing on top!

  • 250g mango pieces – frozen
  • 1 large banana
  • 300ml orange juice
  • 1 tsp honey or maple syrup
Decoration: Empty glass bottles, black crayons, self-adhesive eyes, and paper straw. First, paint and stick on the bottles. You can also tie a colourful bow around them 😊 Then mix all the ingredients and empty the finished smoothie into the glass bottles – enjoy the chick smoothies!
