Up the mountain! Family-friendly hiking trails in Carinthia and South Tyrol

Whether unusual plants along the way, mysterious animal tracks, or wildly fallen trees: when hiking with the little ones, nature becomes an exciting playground. If then at the end a snack or an action-packed adventure park awaits the little ones, hiking with the family becomes an unforgettable experience. In many adventure regions in Carinthia and South Tyrol, you can find numerous hikes that are perfectly adapted to the little hikers.

The Nassfeld – Pressegger See region in beautiful Carinthia offers everything that makes a child’s heartbeat faster. Here, numerous family-friendly mountain experiences are waiting to be discovered and experienced. Right next to the mountain station of the Millennium Express starts a hiking trail for young and old. The Aqua Trail adventure trail up the Madritschen is 1.5 kilometers long and full of nature experiences. Here the little ones not only get closer to the mountains but also learn about the water world in a playful way. At 1,900 meters above sea level, many adventure stations invite you to discover, play and linger. The adventure trail can even be easily navigated with strollers.

Those who still haven’t had enough after the Aqua Trail hike can also hike the extension, the Dolce Vita Trail. The circular trail leads back to the mountain station via Italy. After the hike, you can either take the mountain railroad back down to the valley or take the almost 2,000-meter summer toboggan run, which is especially popular with the little ones.

Leisurely family hiking trails and magical mountain landscapes also await nature lovers young and old on the Katschberg. First and foremost is the Pöllatal stream experience. The family-friendly hiking trail is six kilometers long and extends into the nature reserve. Rustic alpine huts, cozy barbecue areas, and exciting playgrounds are waiting to be discovered. The trail leads past numerous creek entrances as well as adventurous climbing rocks. The hike imparts knowledge about the flora and fauna of the popular hiking region in a playful way. On the Katschberg in Carinthia, you will also find a second family-friendly hiking trail. To the Gamskogelhütte leads the 1.5 kilometers long and very popular Herzerlweg. The trail is easily accessible on foot, with a stroller, or by bike. The destination is the Gamskogelhütte, where a children’s playground invites you to let off steam and a snack station invites you to relax.

Exciting adventures also await little hikers in neighboring South Tyrol. A particularly spectacular nature experience can be found in the Tauferer Ahrntal Valley. A path leads along the waterway to the three Reinbach Falls. The hike takes just under 40 minutes and passes viewing platforms and bridges that offer a unique view of the waterfalls. After marveling at the impressive natural monument, you can make your way back with a particularly exciting attraction. Safely strapped in, you glide slowly between trees back down into the valley on a fly-line and enjoy the breathtaking view of the waterfalls from a bird’s eye view. Due to the slow speed, the ride feels like a panoramic ride and is therefore suitable for young and old.
