Sun skiing & spring fever in Schladming

For me there are certain places in the world that I always automatically connect to certain activities. When I think about skiing, Schladming always springs to mind. For this reason I decided to spend the first of my four holidays in the “Falkensteiner year of my life” in the Falkensteiner Hotel Schladming. Now I look back on three wonderful, relaxed days and in the future many more activities will spring to my mind when I think of Schladming. You can read about what these are & what I experienced in Schladming in my first blog post.

Bright blue sky and mild spring temperatures. That is how Schladming greeted us on our first day. The journey from the city of Salzburg was short and as soon as we arrived it was almost like love at first sight. Nestled on the banks of the Enns, only a few minutes’ walk from the Planai mountain railway and yet an oasis of tranquillity without hustle and bustle and noise. In addition, there is a breathtaking view of the Dachstein massif.

When we arrived we were warmly greeted and felt at home from the very first moment. In the entrance area, it was clear that the architects of this hotel are masters of their work, because I have rarely seen such a traditional and at the same time modern hotel. The light-flooded lobby forms the heart of the hotel. In the interior, special care has been taken to ensure that many regional and natural products are used in order to maintain the fresh Styrian charm.

Soon after we checked into our room, we wanted to explore the surroundings. The bank of the Enns lies right behind the Falkensteiner Hotel Schladming and many panoramic hiking trails start from here. Not only nature lovers, but also romantics and those seeking peace and quiet will get their money’s worth here.

After an extensive spring walk, packed with great impressions, my friend and I went back to the hotel. After so much fresh air, we were really looking forward to dinner. Everyone can enjoy culinary delights in the hotel restaurant “Steirer”. In addition to the light, Mediterranean cuisine, there are also many regional Styrian delicacies to enjoy. This is simply the culmination of every day of the holiday. In the evening you can also sip drinks at the hotel bar “GenießBAR” and end the day next to the open fireplace.

On the second day, the alarm clock rang at 6 o’clock in the morning because my friend and I planned to be the first on the slopes. Arriving at the breakfast buffet, we fortified ourselves for the day and indulged ourselves on the almost endless, delicious buffet.

The Planailift station is just a 5-minute walk from the Falkensteiner Hotel Schladming. If you arrive without winter equipment, you can find out about the right ski equipment at the reception desk and rent it from a local cooperative sports retailer.

Since four days earlier I had been sitting at home in Salzburg’s Mirabell Garden in temperatures over 20°C, I was afraid that skiing would be difficult at the end of March. But when we reached the mountain station, I felt like we were in deepest winter. Perfectly groomed slopes and a full winter panorama took away my last fears. Even at this time of year, a dreamlike winter holiday is possible. The 4-mountain ski area, Hauser Kaibling, Planai, Hochwurzen and Reiteralm, offers 123 kilometres of non-stop pistes. And if you are just as good at the refreshment breaks as I am, you can look forward to 98 ski huts. Packed with great memories in the snow and a fresh ski instructor tan on our faces, we ended the second day of our holiday once again in the enjoyable hotel restaurant “Steirer”.

The focus of our last day in Schladming was the hotel’s Acquapura SPA wellness world. The 1,500m2 include a bathing area with an indoor and outdoor pool including whirlpool loungers, a large selection of saunas, 4 relaxation rooms – one of them is even embedded with fragrant mountain hay – massage and treatment cabins with daylight, a panoramic fitness room and much more. Wellness centre what more do you want! Finally, we enjoyed a massage with a view of the natural landscape and surely by then even the most hard-boiled, stressed guest is in harmony with themselves!

My friend and I really enjoyed every second of our stay and were especially taken with the cordial nature of the hosts and the wonderful scenery. Furthermore, I came to the conclusion that the Schladming-Dachstein region is much more than just a winter sports resort; it is also a paradise for hikers, nature lovers and aspiring nature lovers. Is that incentive enough for you to book a holiday at the Falkensteiner Hotel Schladming soon & see for yourself?

Next, I am heading south, to a Falkensteiner hotel by the sea… Come on, surprise yourself! Follow Falkensteiner Hotels on social media channels and don’t miss any news. 😉

See ya,
Hannes
