Welcome Dogs: Auf Urlaub mit dem Hund!

Shake a paw!

Faithful. A playmate, a life companion. Man’s „best friend“.

The dog is part of the family: like a son, an extra brother. With him, we share our moments of joy and those of discouragement, certain that he will always lie down beside us.

However, not everyone is lucky enough to have one: many are afraid of them, dislike them in general or are more simply allergic to their fur.

For others, however, they become indispensable guides: think for example of the blind, who, thanks to them, can avoid dangers of any kind.

The risk we can run, however, as human beings, is that of humanising it too much: we take it for granted that we can take it everywhere, at our own pace and with our own needs.

Activities as simple as moving from home require time to adapt. Right from the first years of life, it is important to understand him and help him socialise with the outside world. It is better to prefer close and comfortable places, with the appropriate must-haves:

  • the carrier
  • toys and a cushion, to make him feel at home
  • the right leash and harness
  • water bottle and portable food and water bowl
  • the dog’s up-to-date health booklet

Having passed this level, we can move on to the next one: travelling together.

At the hotel with your four-legged friend

You have realised that no one will be able to look after your pet in your absence.

Travelling together can be a wonderful opportunity, as well as a wonderful experience, but it will undoubtedly influence the choice of your next destination.

When it comes to hotels, it is not always easy to find a hotel that is also suitable for your dog: some guests may not like a dog barking or, as we said at the beginning, may be afraid of it and, above all, the hotel may not allow it – so always inform yourself when booking.

The basic rule is usually the same everywhere: the dog must always be kept on a leash in public areas. So, whether you are talking about lobbies or bars, keeping your dog under control makes those around you feel safer and makes you feel calmer.

However, the dog’s well-being cannot be put on the back burner: caresses, treats and refreshment areas can really make a difference and make him feel fully at ease, perhaps together with other four-legged friends, always with your full consent. The hotel staff could also provide a suitable service to allow you to enjoy areas such as the SPA that dogs, for example, will not have access to.
