Ferragosto, a summer holiday that brings together a thousand different traditions, originated in ancient Rome from the “Feriae Augusti”. We are talking about a real day of rest for Emperor Augustus, a pagan feast that, over time, was also identified with the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in the Catholic tradition.
“What do we do in August”
is the question that comes every year from friends, acquaintances or relatives a few days before the 15th of August!
We celebrate this day all over Italy. The traditions range from campfires to beach lunches and parades. Of course, on this holiday, you risk spending many hours in traffic jams or on a beach, a restaurant, a crowded park.
I love to combine rest with fun and good food on August 15th. Here are some ideas on how to spend a perfect Ferragosto – there is something for everyone!
For those who are looking for emotions: a sunset on the boat
The sunset is a magical moment, no matter where you are in the world. Go aboard a boat, breathe the sea air with the wind in your hair, it can’t get any better.
If what you are looking for is a load of emotions, then this experience is for you.
After a relaxing day on the beach, at the pool or in the company of friends, it’s the perfect end to passing Punta Skala in Croatia by boat.
If you add an ice-cold cocktail, the emotions are perfect.
For those who are looking for absolute relaxation: private beach
Whether private or just a small, not overcrowded bay – the idea of spending a few hours by the sea on a paradisiacal beach is tempting.
This is the best solution for those who love solitude, for those who do yoga by the sea or just want to collect thoughts. But it can also be the ideal place to spend a few hours with your family or loved ones.
For those who like to sit at the table: Lunch at the pool
Food is a real ritual for us Italians. And during the holidays, good food is a must! So why not have a fresh lunch by the pool? The shade of the pergola and the breeze of the sea make the summer heat pleasant, a glass of white wine refreshes all guests.
In Italy, one of the most popular dishes on these occasions is certainly calamari fritti, but pasta is also a must. Don’t be afraid to order something big (without exaggerating!). After lunch, you can relax in the shade of the olive trees that surround the Hotel Falkensteiner Iadera.
For those who like it romantic: couple massage at the spa
On the 15th of August, it can rain of course. This possibility has to be considered, but don’t panic! The spa is always the best alternative and the sound of rain may make the grey day a little better.
A nice massage relaxes the muscles of the body and my advice: Ask directly at the Acquapura Spa for the right treatment for you. Why don’t you try a sauna for a few minutes and then go to the outdoor pool? Mind and body will thank you as well as the harmony with your partner.
These are just a few tips on how to spend August 15th, a feast day that is best spent outside the city chaos and everyday life, such as in the Falkensteiner Hotel Iadera in Croatia.
Have a nice holiday and a good rest! 🙂
