The invisible hotel heroes & heroines

Cleaning, mopping, vacuuming – the housekeeping team is the good spirit of a hotel.
Knock, wait, enter or come back later: The work starts the same for the housekeeping staff everywhere in the world.
But have you ever wondered what actually happens before YOU (again) move into your room and enjoy your well-deserved time off? – We have asked for you in our 5* Falkensteiner Schlosshotel Velden.

What we did not expect!

Clearly, the hotel room is the flagship of the hotel and at the same time a retreat in a foreign environment, a place where the battery is recharged for the next day. That’s why it’s so important to guarantee well-being in the room at all times. The housekeeping team, which is on duty every day to meet this requirement, makes sure that the guest has nothing to complain about in his room and can relax. So there’s more to it than just a “bit of mopping” namely a “room checklist” as well as the standard operating procedure, which extends over 41(!!!!!) pages – and here we’re not even sure if there wasn’t more, but we were only given the “basics”.
41 pages just about cleaning, mopping, and vacuuming – is that overkill, you ask? We thought so too at first, but: absolutely not! The housekeeping staff is instrumental in providing a positive stay for every guest – always keeping their eyes and ears open in the area of cleanliness and purity, they are the ones who are in the rooms every day, checking what is needed and catering to the guests’ preferences – at Schlosshotel Velden, guests are offered a very special service.

This is how it’s done!

While our one often sinks in the chaos of the home and does not know where to start first with cleaning, the good spirits of the housekeeping team at the Falkensteiner Schlosshotel Velden start focused and according to plan! Upon entering a room, a professional sees at first glance where he or she needs to take action so that everything is immaculate again after the job. In doing so, it is important to adhere to precise time specifications and not to exceed the calculated time for a room cleaning, even if the areas of operation should turn out to be somewhat more extensive.Even cleaning agents and cleaning rags are not left to chance – if we count one or two cleaners in the box, room attendants and room boys are required to handle 5 different ones and the matching rags.

So what does the process look like?

Step 1 is called stripping, here the focus is on clearing the room of trash and stripping and cleaning bedding and towels.
Step 2 is making the bed. Again, there are 11 steps to follow, from the correct positioning of the mattress to hospital corners and 10 cm of air between the carpet and the end of the bedspread.

Step 3 is devoted to the application of cleaning agents in the bathroom. Each rag, detergent, and a combo of the two has a specific task. Thus, there are red, blue, and yellow cleaning cloths – while yellow is used for the sink and shower, glass surfaces and shelves are cleaned with a blue cloth, and the toilet sees red. But there is much more to consider when cleaning the bathroom!Step 4 describes the cleaning of the bedroom: “Remember that dust always falls, so start cleaning from the top down” – maybe we should take it to heart at home ;).
Everything that belongs to the sleeping area is dusted, cleaned, checked for defects, and refilled if necessary – nothing is more annoying than an empty minibar, except maybe strange hair in the bed. But that can’t happen, because even that is scrutinized with eagle eyes.
Step 5 describes the cleaning of the terrace, and here, too, there are a few things to keep in mind: Not to disturb anyone of the other guests or to clean existing stains correctly.
Even the vacuuming is dedicated to a separate point – one would like to think here not much wrong to do to be able – must be opened here first all windows for ventilation, in straight lines from the end of the room to the door should be vacuumed and also all upholstered furniture.

As you can see, there seems to be no end to the list – so can we agree that the housekeeping staff is the invisible heroines & heroes of our vacations because they manage to make us feel at home in a strange hotel room and always give us a friendly smile?
